A Message From Kennedy Kyle
UCLA UniCamp challenges student volunteers to deliver unique outdoor experiences for children from urban communities that foster personal growth, build relationships, and teach leadership. This allows both student volunteer and camper, to learn that they can reach their full potential, often beyond what they thought possible, and to make a positive impact in their community. The Afrikan proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child," is the guiding principle of The Village Session, where campers celebrate Afrikan American heritage, history, and culture in a safe space that is affirming, appreciative, and nurtures their personal assets. Village elders create an immersive environment for empowerment that strengthens campers' confidence and character on a foundation of culture, community and college-readiness. The Village Session provides access to resources for academic, social, and cultural excellence and develops leadership to advance the legacy of social justice.
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
