A Message From Joy Lin
Hello family and friends!
I am stoked to be volunteering again for the third summer now with UniCamp. I started off by training 15 incoming transfer students at the end of June using a hands-on, trauma-informed method at an accelerated pace of only one week! These volunteers are now sent to the various sessions of camp we have this summer, and I have no doubt in their abilities to be amazing counselors. ATL means a lot to me, as it is what welcomed me into UCLA and UniCamp two years ago.
At the end of July, I will be heading up the mountains with Session 4 (Academicamp) as an Alpine Specialist, which entails belaying kids between 10-17 years old while they challenge themselves climbing a 55 ft alpine tower. I had a lot of fun learning and super stoked to take on this role.
Like many people, I’d become sedentary during these pandemic times and suffered from a lot of body image issues. Climbing has helped me decompress and take notice of my body’s abilities, which in turn helps build my confidence. Each time I climb, I feel stronger and push myself harder. Knowing how climbing has helped me, especially during these tough times, I’m excited to be on the ground physically and emotionally supporting these campers while they push their limits on the alpine tower.
None of this would be possible without your donation. Any amount helps me greatly! Thank you

UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
