A Message From Katelyn Tang
IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN. You know the deal- for the last 2 years I've gone into the mountains to learn how to kill bears, drink morning dew from leaves, start my own campfires from 2 rocks and bathe in rivers.
Just kidding, the rivers are too dried up from the fires for me to bath in so I don't shower at all.
But actually I don't actually do any of these things (except actually we don't shower for the entire week to save water, so that wasn't a lie)- but every summer for the past 2 years I try to raise money for underserved kids who may want to do these things and never have and never will have the chance to do so- not without YOUR help.
So this is Tater Tots (my camp name!) sincerely counting on your love and donations this year- for the very last time, since I don't know where the future will take me after this year, but unfortunately, I know it won't be take me to a place where I can do Unicamp again. :(
I decided to go out with a bang this time and joined Unicorps as an advisor - a special subdivision of regular camp that teaches kids community service and leadership. I'm so pumped to be a part of such an amazing group- I've looked up to them since I first joined as a New Woodsey. :)
This session is going to be especially important to me because Session 8 works with foster kids- more specifically, youth who are transitioning in between homes. Unicamp is here to give these kids a home in the woods- hopefully a home that they can hold dear in their hearts wherever the future leads them. I can truly say that for myself, there is no other place where I have felt so at peace with myself then under Camp Riverglen's stars, listening to the crackling of campfires and voices singing songs in unison.
Thank you in advance for any donations you can spare for this Tot to make a small difference in the life of another kid- for giving me the chance to let an LA kid see what a starry sky looks like, what a campfire surrounded by friends smells likes, what a river sounds like as it cheerfully bubbles along- a chance for another kid to learn some songs, play some games and change their life.
