A Message From Gustavo Garay-Ramirez
Every year, UniCamp touches the lives of over 1,000 disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles by sending them to summer camp. This is not only a chance for these deserving students to have a blast, but a place where they learn about the possibilities and opportunities that their future holds. As a first time member of the UniCamp team, I hope to make a difference and truly become involved in this amazing initiative.
UniCamp as a whole has 8 different session, each with its own objective. Some support college readiness, while others explore grief management, health and fitness, and even mental health for LGBTQ teens. For the second year in a row, I will be volunteering with “AcademiCamp”, a session rooted in social justice for education.
AcademiCamp works with middle and early high schoolers from UCLA’s community schools, such as Horace Mann. We engage in onsite tutoring during the school year, and up at camp, math and reading lessons are integrated throughout the week.
However, the price of UniCamp is not cheap. Each volunteer strives to fundraise $500 (the price to send one camper to camp!) Please help make UniCamp a reality!!
Thanks for the support,
Gustavo
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
