A Message From Panda Monium
This year as a part of UniCamp, I have had the opportunity to be part of the leadership team. As one of the leadership members, I am responsible for programming an interactive and fun week at camp for over 100 youths of the Los Angeles area. UniCamp is an organization that I have an extreme amount passion for, as I have seen just how much the camp experience can change a child's mindset and their life in general.
You may be wondering why I go by "Panda" in my donation page. The story behind this is simple. At UniCamp, each volunteer and camper is asked to come up with a "camp name". One story in particular about a camper who chose the name "smart", really stuck a chord in me, and is a reason (among many) why I choose to continue being a part of this organization.
When smart was a camper some 40 years ago, he was asked why he had chosen his name, his reply was simple: "I have never been called 'smart' before". UniCamp gave him this opportunity to change his mindset, and be who he wanted to be for that week and for the rest of his life.
This name is meant to symbolize the idea that at camp, we can choose to be whomever we would like. We can leave the issues we have at home, and just enjoy ourselves, and take on new perspectives from those around us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and for giving me another opportunity to help others:)

UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles.
