A Message From Layla Fahs
As a graduating UCLA senior and the daughter of immigrant parents, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the opportunities that helped shape my journey. Growing up in South Los Angeles with immigrant parents, I wasn’t always aware of opportunities like camp or the financial assistance available to make them possible. UniCamp helps ensure that young people from all backgrounds have access to experiences that build confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging.
This summer, I am serving as an Older Girls Counselor (ages 13–15) after months of training to ensure we can provide a safe, supportive, and meaningful experience for every camper. Working with these girls reminds me of my youngest sister and of so many young people from communities like mine who deserve the chance to explore, grow, and simply be kids. They are the next generation of leaders, changemakers, and community builders.
Your donation helps make these opportunities accessible to youth who may otherwise never have the chance to experience them!
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
