As my UCLA journey comes to an end, I know how important it is to find a safe space to build my identity and embrace who I am and what I am capable of around others. Many of these kids from underserved communities are struggling to be kids. They are consumed by negativity from all around them because of who they are and where they came from. I want to be able to help encourage and motivate kids in my session to be able to embrace who they are and tap into their true potentials to grow into the best person they can be, but I cannot do it without your help! Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated. Please help me subsidize the cost for these kids to have a life-changing experience at camp. More about our session: “It takes a village to raise a child.” - African proverb This quote is the heartbeat and overarching philosophy of The Village Nation (TVN), an organization focused on empowering African American students to achieve both academically and holistically by providing a platform to take ownership of their identity, legacy, and community. This week of camp will serve as a culmination of the efforts of TVN’s efforts throughout the school year. This session of camp, aka “The Village Session”, will be a group of compassionate, open-minded and close-knit volunteers and campers who are passionate about creating a safe space together: to get to know one another, recognize the leader within themselves and have an open dialogue about shaping our community.
