A Message From Kaela "Kiki" Lavin
Hi friends, family, and lovely UniCamp supporters! Nice to see you here :)
This year, I am a Wilderness Adventures in Leadership and Learning (WALL) advisor for the Older Camper Program (OCP) in Session Five: Camp Half Blood (yes, Percy Jackson)! During my week of camp this summer, I'll take 5-7 campers on a four day backpacking trip to the summit of the San Gorgonio Mountain (the highest peak in SoCal). This experience will allow both my campers and myself the opportunity to step outside of our comfort zones, persevere through mental and physical challenges, develop a deeper love of nature, gain wilderness survival skills, understand the human impact on our environment, and grow leadership skills. After chasing my first bear last summer, I have no doubt that this summer will be a memorable one!
My goal is to fundraise $1500 to subsidize the cost of campers and their families/guardians to ensure that we have safe and comfortable backpacking equipment, and cover the cost of food on our trip – I'm most looking forward to the SPAM meal and getting over my fear of canned tuna. Any donations are greatly appreciated and will go incredibly far. All donations directly made to my GivEffect link are tax-deductible, and you can also send your donation to my Venmo if easier: @kaelalavin.
I love this organization and the impact it has on volunteers and campers alike. I am so, so excited to be a WALL advisor this year (in addition to my role as UniCamp's Undergraduate President) and get the opportunity to make an impact on my ~future~ WALL camper's lives. Thank you for any and all support. I am incredibly grateful for your kindness!
Much Woodsey Love,
Kaela "Kiki" Lavin
