A Message From Belinda Davenport
Hello everyone,
My name is Belinda Davenport, and I am a Sophomore at UCLA.
This past summer, I had an incredible opportunity to be a camp counselor at Unicamp to outstanding, strong-minded, and intellectually bright Los Angeles youth.
Unicamp is an amazing opportunity for Los Angeles’ youth to spend a week in nature and distress from their day-to-day lives and be kids who are seeking fun and lifelong memories. I will be an Older Camp Programming advisor this year, also known as an OCP advisor. Unicamp is all about helping underprivileged Los Angeles youth develop and enhance leadership snd communication skills. Not to mention, Unicamp helps the youth connect with nature and be kids. Camp gives children the chance to be themselves and learn how to better themselves.
Within the two major programs in OCP, I am participating in CLIMB, which focuses on rock climbing. CLIMB’s main objective is directed toward the mind and body. Meaning this program is meant to help older campers develop the fundamentals of self-growth (i.e., responsibility, trust, and mindfulness). Campers will be challenged to step out of their (physical and mental) comfort zone as they learn the foundations and basics of climbing (handling ropes, climbing, belaying, etc.). As an OCP advisor, I will assist my campers to learn to be (mentally and physically) strong and independent individuals. The tools and lessons campers experience and learn at camp will help campers up the mountain and down the mountain as well. Campers WILL be a trailblazer and leaders because they are the leaders of tomorrow.
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
