A Message From Lauren Johnston
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! This will be my second year in an amazing organization called UCLA Unicamp. I loved camp so much last year that I had to do it again this year! The picture is of my unit of incredible girls from last year. I will never forget being ambushed by my campers as soon as I left an hour and a half shift at the dish pit. The girls were singing at the top of their lungs and were so excited to dress me up for the counselor fashion show. Definitely one of my favorite memories of the week. I will be training over 100 hours over the winter and spring quarters of my senior year of college (I know it is crazy to think I am a senior in college this year) to be a counselor to the underserved youth of Los Angeles at a week-long summer camp. Part of my responsibility is to raise $450.00 to support the cost of sending a child to camp. This is where I need your help. I am asking for your support, at whatever amount you feel comfortable, to help me reach my goal and to give a child the opportunity to experience what may be their first-ever experience of going to camp. My camp session (Session 4) aims to teach campers the importance of developing a healthy balance between mental and physical health, school, and extracurricular activities. When it comes to creating healthy habits, it is easy to focus on physical health while foregoing mental wellness. This session aims to provide kids with the tools to take care of both their brains and their bodies. Additionally, Session 4 seeks to provide campers with an opportunity to learn more about pursuing higher education with activities centered on successful study habits, taking advantage of various academic resources, and mentorship. By introducing campers to new activities they may not try on their own, we hope to create an environment of openness that allows kids to explore their different interests.
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
