A Message From Rubie Amaya

Hello Everyone! My name is Rubie Amaya and I have been given the amazing opportunity to be a part of UCLA's official student-run charity known as UniCamp.
UniCamp offers children the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature while also learning valuable life skills. Many of the children that attend UniCamp come from undeserved communities and have not been given the opportunity to camp. Not only have they not been given this privilege, they are almost never fully allowed to be children and express themselves in their own way. This is where UniCamp is most beneficial. Taking them from their urban lives to explore nature allows the children to forget about their endeavors and express themselves as children. As a child that was never given the chance to attend camp herself, UniCamp is especially important to me. Giving children the power to be themselves is one of the most valuable and enriching experiences, not only for them but for you.
In my session Leadership Development and Life Skills we give children the tools necessary to achieve self-efficacy and allow them to dream and achieve their full potential. These skills will allow them to become multifaceted individuals and help them in their future endeavors. Not only will they be challenged to see circumstances through different lenses, they will learn the importance of communication and collaboration, which is at the center of almost everything in life.
For these reasons I ask if you could please help me reach my goal of $200 to support UniCamp and the children. It would allow the kids to have an amazing time at camp while also drawing from their experiences to their everyday lives and the future ahead of them. Please help us out and donate as much or as little as you can!

About This Campaign

In the midst of our UCLA UniCamp Student Volunteer's nearly 100 hours of training, they somehow manage to find time to fundraise at least $450 each with fellow UCLA UniCamp Student Volunteers. Please join us in sponsoring these students. All proceeds from this event go towards sending under-served youth to camp this summer. The student’s goal this year is to raise $150,000. This will help UCLA UniCamp give over 1,000 campers a summer camping experience. Join us in this great cause. UCLA UniCamp is a tradition at UCLA that is entering its 83rd summer of camp. Every year there are hundreds of underserved children that may not be dreaming of a bright future. Help us provide these kids with the tools to change their stars and give them the chance to dream big and succeed. Thank you in advance for your interest and your generosity!
