A Message From Rubie Amaya

Hello Everyone! My name is Rubie Amaya and I have been given the amazing opportunity to be a part of UCLA's official student-run charity known as UniCamp. UniCamp offers children the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature while also learning valuable life skills. Many of the children that attend UniCamp come from undeserved communities and have not been given the opportunity to camp. Not only have they not been given this privilege, they are almost never fully allowed to be children and express themselves in their own way. This is where UniCamp is most beneficial. Taking them from their urban lives to explore nature allows the children to forget about their endeavors and express themselves as children. As a child that was never given the chance to attend camp herself, UniCamp is especially important to me. Giving children the power to be themselves is one of the most valuable and enriching experiences, not only for them but for you. In my session Leadership Development and Life Skills we give children the tools necessary to achieve self-efficacy and allow them to dream and achieve their full potential. These skills will allow them to become multifaceted individuals and help them in their future endeavors. Not only will they be challenged to see circumstances through different lenses, they will learn the importance of communication and collaboration, which is at the center of almost everything in life. For these reasons I ask if you could please help me reach my goal of $200 to support UniCamp and the children. It would allow the kids to have an amazing time at camp while also drawing from their experiences to their everyday lives and the future ahead of them. Please help us out and donate as much or as little as you can!
