A Message From Hieu Duong
Hi my name is Hieu Duong. I'm a psychobiology major and aspiring physician's assistant currently enrolled at the best school in the world, the University of California Los Angeles. In my spare time I love shooting hoops with my friends and singing to artists like Maroon 5 and John Mayer. Also I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend too much time watching The Office and House of Cards.
Growing up with a single mother and no siblings to share my life with, I feel, made me appreciate everyone and everything that are a part of my life. So when I get the opportunity I try to give back to those who have stood by my side all these years and to those who could use a helping hand. I’m currently involved in an organization at UCLA called Mentorship where I get to mentor Jorge, an 8th grader and a good kid who can be a little too sarcastic at times. Although at times it’s difficult getting him engaged in the activities we have planned, my time with him has been rewarding knowing that he listens to my advice and is gradually picking up on better habits. Back at home in Orange County I’m also a mentor for all my younger cousins. Being the oldest, my cousins often look up to me as a big brother and I see them as the siblings I never had. Lynn, Nathan, Candace, Matthew, Sarah, Conrad, Crystal, Kaylynn, Evelynn, Grace, Joey, James, Johnathan, and Julianne all know that they can look for me when they need help like tutoring in a class or life advice or even a ride to the movies with their friends.
This summer I plan to spend my time serving underprivileged kids at an amazing organization called Unicamp where, as a camp counselor, I’ll get to inspire, provide tools for a bright future, and be the big brother these kids need. But to do this I’ll need a help from you so ANY amount you can find to donate will be sincerely appreciated and will help. Thank you for taking the time to read this. You're awesome
Best,
Hieu Duong

UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community.
