A Message From Samantha Gundy

Only twenty percent of foster youth who graduate high school make it to college. That's forty percent less than the national average. Why does that matter? Education can break the confines of classism. Because higher education increases a person's lifelong income outlook, meaning they make more throughout the course of their life, students who obtain degrees are actively rebelling against the borders of economic disparity. So...what can we do to advocate that all children have equal access to higher education? The first step is: expose them to it. UNICAMP was built in 1934 on the principle that "you can't help someone unless you know them." Volunteer-run and UCLA student facilitated, Unicamp challenges boundaries by giving kids who wouldn't have a chance to go to summer camp an awesome and adventure filled week in the woods! We work closely with our campers and as UCLA students we talk to them about future plans while inspiring them with ours. As a community college transfer from a low income, single parent family background I understand that the road to a world-class university like UCLA can often seem impossible. But as volunteers, we are living proof that it's not. That our campers can get here from where they are now. Will you help me send a child to camp? Any donation counts.
