A Message From Armadillo Woodsey
Hello friends and family! I'm working with UniCamp for my third year now, and I am finally a Head Counselor this summer! I'm going to give it everything I have in order to organize an amazing session for high school students of the San Fernando Valley. We are all a part of the Social Justice Activism session; our goal is to open up discussion with campers about the forms of discrimination we experience, how to deflect them with love, and to provide leadership opportunities so that our campers can take what they've learned to become advocates in their communities and colleges in the future.
We also teach soft skills, including stress management and communication, to encourage these potential first generation college students to strive for furthering their education after high school - with the right tools, they will feel better equipped to take that next step with confidence. I am extremely passionate about our initiative. It's so important to inspire our youth, validate feelings, provide reassurance when uncertain, and break down the barriers and challenges they may face when having to lead their peers.
Where does the money go? We provide transportation to these campers from the San Fernando Valley to Camp River Glen (near Big Bear), supply and cook their week's worth of food, and cover other costs that go into maintaining or providing sailing, alpine tower climbing, swimming, mountain biking, and all the other camp activities we run. Our volunteers train hundreds of hours every year to meet the qualifications necessary to work well with children and be prepared for all situations. They also create programs that our tailored to our initiative, run activities, foster friendships, give guidance, and most importantly, create a Woodsey, safe environment for our campers.
That's it for me, I love you all! Thank you so much for the time you took to look into our initiative and for your consideration towards supporting our cause; have the most amazing day
