A Message From Jamie Askari
Sup yall, I'm back at it again and doing Unicamp once again this year! Camp was one of the most amazing things I've ever been a part of, and there was no doubt in my mind I would do it again when the opportunity presented itself.
For the uninitiated, Unicamp a nonprofit organization and the official charity of UCLA that connects student volunteers from UCLA with youth from underserved areas in LA. All of our campers get to go to camp for free because it the responsibility of volunteers like me to fundraise and cover the cost of camp.
This year I am a part of CLIMB (Core Lessons in Mind & Body), an Older Camper Program that offers an opportunity for campers to learn about the fundamentals and safety of rock climbing as a platform to experience self-growth. It focuses around the 5 pillars of rock climbing to teach campers responsibility, trust, and mindfulness. The program culminates with an off-site, outdoor climb which allows them to fully appreciate and utilize everything they have learned through the program.
Unicamp is the only organization I ever joined where I felt like I was able to make a real and positive difference in the lives of others. Any donation, no matter the amount, gets me one step closer to helping these kids experience an amazing week of camp.
Thank you so much!
