A Message From Suki
As a former camper, former counselor, and now a part of the Leadership team, I believe that everyone can make a difference, but together as a whole we make change. I will be serving on the Leadership team for Session 1, which will focus on Mental Health Awareness.
Session One is going to be in partnership with Project Grad Los Angeles, an organization that works with urban youth from the San Fernando valley to prepare them for college applications, as well as their lives as future university students. This week of camp will be focused on mental health with two goals: raise awareness and reduce stigmas. This session plans to combine and develop the students’ socio-emotional learning skills with new strategies to promote healthy minds. Through education of mental health, Session One aims to provide resources to these students that will allow them to be successful in their transitions from high school to college. Session One also plans to work with many UCLA On-Campus organizations that focus on mental health, which will enable them to better train their volunteers and create better outcome based programming for their kids.
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
