A Message From Luis Perez
Hello!
My name is Luis Perez (but up the mountain I go by Cap’N Crunch!), and I am so excited to have the opportunity to be LSHIP for the coming year of camp! Growing up, I was made aware of the disparities within communities and households—seeing my own parents working day in and day out, earning barely enough to get by, you learn to appreciate the things that you do have. That said, and speaking from a place of experience, being in this position is insufferable. You feel obligated to find comfort, whether that means turning things around or falling into the same cycle and being okay with it. Instead, I pursued a higher education, attended college, and did a complete 180. Now, as LSHIP, I want to be an example for kids who feel cornered or lack good role models in their lives, especially as someone who comes from a similar background. This year, I have the opportunity to ensure they have the best set of counselors who are adequately trained and well prepared to complete their responsibilities up the mountain.
So, I ask: if you are willing to make a donation, each and every dollar goes directly to benefiting the kids at camp and helping us, the counselors, get up the mountain!. Anything is greatly appreciated and beneficial in helping us foster core memories for the underserved youth, who are a part of the Woodsey family.
MWL,
Cap’n Crunch
