A Message From Luis Perez
To those who read this, my name is Luis Perez, and I am a 1st-generation Mexican American student attending Orange Coast College. As a child, I began growing aware of the differences between communities and households. Seeing my own parents working day in and day out, barely to get by, you learn to appreciate the things that you do have. But being in this position is insufferable, as you feel obligated to find comfort, whether that means turning things around or falling into the same cycle and being okay with it. I want to help prevent the cycle from continuing on, breaking my own cycle, one seen commonly in my generation. I pursued a higher education and attended college, straying away from the streets and doing a complete 180. Being in the position I am now, I want to be an example for some of these kids who feel cornered or lack good role models in their lives, especially being someone coming from a similar background. I believe I could connect with them and aid them in walking the right path. Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help me get to camp!
