A Message From Matt "Ninja" Fernandez
Hey y'all, it's that time of year again when I get ready to go volunteer for UniCamp and swear that this might be my last time going up the mountain (although let's be real, it's getting harder every year so it may very well be true this time!).
For those of you who don't know, I've been a volunteer with UCLA UniCamp, the official charity of UCLA, since my freshman year of college 11 years ago. UniCamp is a nonprofit that hosts summer camps for underserved youth in Los Angeles County, providing activities like archery, canoeing, rock climbing, campfires, and living in nature to kids who would otherwise not have these kinds of opportunities. As volunteers, we help subsidize the cost of camp for the families we serve by fundraising.
This year, my fundraising goal is $450, all of which is tax deductible by the way. This money will help cover the food, transportation, facilities, energy, and other costs up at camp. Every dollar helps and I appreciate every donation from the bottom of my heart.
I don't know how many summers up the mountain I have left in me, but there aren't many left. Help me have a positive impact on the lives of our local youth this summer. Do it for me. Do it for the kids. Heck, do it for the tax break!
Much Woodsey Love,
Matt AKA Ninja

UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
