A Message From Emme Maskrey

Hi, my name is Emme and I’m a volunteer with UCLA UniCamp. UniCamp is the official charity of the students of UCLA and has been around over 85 years-since 1934. We give children from underserved communities a week of summer camp focusing on leadership, teamwork, and college. We train and serve as camp counselors to underserved youth in the LA area. The kids go to our camp in the River Glen-in the San Bernardino Mountains for a week in the summer. This year I'm involved in a program called WALL, which stands for Wilderness Adventures in Leadership and Learning. This program provides high school campers with the experience of backpacking in the wilderness. On a multiple-day overnight hike in the San Bernardino Mountains, campers are given the opportunity to get away from the stresses of their life at home and enjoy the outdoors, stepping out of their comfort zone to learn what we can accomplish through teamwork and perseverance. Since these kids come from underserved families, each volunteer fundraises $450 to support their cost of one kid going to camp. This is my first time volunteering for Unicamp. I am excited to get more experience working with kids. My peers that have worked in this program before have had wonderful experiences and got to know so many young kids with amazing potential, which inspires me to help make a positive impact in their communities.Any amount you are willing to donate can really help make the best summer for them. https://www.unicamp.org/
