[Fundraising checkpoint: WE HIT THE GOAL!!!] Hi everyone, You may know me as Alice, but sometimes I channel my inner self “Twig”. Throughout my time at UCLA, I found a place for myself in UniCamp, a non-profit that serves LA youth since 1928. We provide summer camp experiences in the San Bernardino mountains, near Big Bear. While summer camp is one week for each camp session, volunteer camp counselors attend one training every week during the winter and spring quarter. It was through this training, I became a climbing tower specialist last year, safely belaying groups of kids around 10-14 years old. Building on leadership experience is important to me- and especially needed going into a teaching career. This year, I am one of the head camp counselors that lead volunteer trainings. It’s great practice to carry out lesson plans - performing skits, lecturing training topics, leading outcome-based activities, and debriefing. Unicamp is philanthropic. We do fundraising to take the weight off of families that can't set aside the money. To be a good model to my fellow volunteers, I am pushing the fundraising goal to $500!
