A Message From Alice Chiang
[Y'all are the best!!! We made it to $150 checkpoint :)]
Hi everyone,
You may know me as Alice, but sometimes I channel my inner self “Twig”. When I navigated my first year at UCLA last year, I found a place for myself in UniCamp, a non-profit that served LA youth since 1928. I was enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with kids because my goal is to be a teacher after college.
Last year, I trained as a volunteer and became a climbing tower specialist, safely belaying groups of kids around 10-14 years old. Before camp started, I fundraised just perfect of $450. We do this fundraising to take the weight off of families that can't set aside the money. It's all towards hosting the weeks of camp for LA students in San Bernardino Mountains.
This year, I applied and got the role of head camp counselor, who will train volunteers how to work with students. Each week, we cover a topic on skills to work with peers and children. When puting together activities and outcomes, it is very much a mini lesson plan! Building on leadership experience is important to me as I’ll be leading a classroom of my own soon. As an aspiring leader, I am pushing the fundraising goal to $500!
Please consider supporting me and donate for the kids! I compare money a lot to boba these days like its $6 whaaat. Any amount of donation is appreciated!
Much Woodsey Love,
Alice "Twig" Chiang
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
