A Message From Diana "Belle" Zavala
Hey Hey! First of all its so nice to have you here reading this super important note! I appreciate you for getting this far and considering supporting me and the campers I will be working with this summer!
If your confused on what campers I am referring to, let me give you a run down. After a memorable week of camp last summer where I first served as a camp counselor, I have the great honor of returning to camp as a head counselor for Unicamp's session 6!! Unicamp is a non profit organization at UCLA which seeks to empower low-income youth from the Los Angeles area by sending more than 1,000 youths to Camp River Glen, located in the San Bernardino mountains, for a week of summer camp. (super cool right!!) Unfortunately, the cost of attending camp is often a barrier that keeps youths in my community from experiencing the outdoor summer experience. (so sad right!) However, as a non-profit organization and UCLA'S official student charity, volunteer counselors like myself fundraise to eliminate this barrier and ensure the camping experience is accessible for these youths.
By donating, you will be subsidizing the cost for these students to attend camp and thus will be investing in the youth of our community by allowing them to experience what may be their first-ever experience of going to camp. An experience that can transform the lives of these campers who will have the opportunity to cultivate positive relationships, social and academic development, and explore multiple avenues of self-expression, thanks to the week of summer camp that you will be supporting through your donation.
Thank you again for considering supporting this cause. Together, we can make a difference and give these deserving young individuals an experience they'll cherish forever.
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
