A Message From Mayra Calderon
Growing up in an under-served community with limited resources, it was very apparent at a young age that my dreams seemed a lot harder to reach. The tools to change my future did not come until high school when a program similar to UCLA Unicamp was provided specifically for kids who were in similar circumstances. It was through this program that I learned my circumstances would never define my future or keep me from reaching my dreams. As a volunteer for UCLA Unicamp this summer, I want to be able to give the same tools and break the same barriers for children who feel that their goals and success are unachievable due to their circumstances. All donations to this campaign go directly towards being able to send the under-served youth of Los Angeles County to UCLA Unicamp at Camp River Glen. Some youth will be returning campers, while others will be experiencing camping and Unicamp for the first time. It is an opportunity for campers to enjoy the great outdoors this summer, as well as learn valuable skills through various activities that fosters growth, leadership, and responsibility. These donations are more than just helping a child get to camp, but it also uplifts the community and provides unique opportunities that would otherwise not be possible without these donations. Thank you for helping a child have a great summer!
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
