A Message From June Woodsey
Ever since I joined UCLA UniCamp freshman year back in 2018-2019, I’ve been hooked. I have so many amazing memories from camp, but one that has stuck with me was from one of the three sessions I did this past summer. I was working with the older campers (high schoolers) where the focus was service learning. We would play music to make the chores more fun, and when I tell you chores were one of the best times at camp, I'm not exaggerating. As we were cleaning up around camp, we blasted music and screamed camp songs on the top of our lungs. It was so much fun. I have never seen a group of kids so excited to clean and so gear to volunteer whenever we needed help with something. One of the kids was even excited to wipe down and unclog toilets!
I'm very much excited to announce that I'll be returning as the Session Program Director (SPD) of Session 6 for UniCamp this year! As SPD, I’ll be responsible for planning the week’s activities up at camp and training around 40 volunteers to work with us as counselors, all with help from my co-leadership team! I have wanted to be SPD since I joined and am so excited to finally get the chance in my fourth (and maybe final?) year in UniCamp. This year my session will be called “Where the Magic Happens,” where we aim to provide a safe, educational, and magical space for campers to learn about themselves and explore their identities. Our programs will focus on helping campers creatively and effectively express themselves, uncover their magic within, learn about the value of community, and learn how to foster healthy relationships.
