A Message From Sierra Hagen
Hi everyone! My name is Sierra and most of you probably know me, but if you don't, I'm currently a first year environmental science major at UCLA, but I'm originally from a small town called Colfax in Northern California. I recently joined UCLA's Unicamp as a camp counselor/volunteer in training. I decided to join Unicamp to get involved with something on campus, but also because the organization's mission falls really close to my heart. Growing up, camping and nature was always a part of my reality, and I think it genuinely impacted who I am as a person in a big way. It made me more compassionate, adventurous, and taught me how to deal with challenges that come my way. If I hadn't had the opportunity to explore the outdoors and develop such a close relationship with the environment around me I believe that my life would have turned out entirely differently, I never would have discovered one of the things that I'm currently most passionate about and plan to dedicate my life to protecting. That's why I think Unicamp's mission, of bringing kids from LA's inner cities out to the outdoors to camp for a week is so important. It really exposes kids to something new for the first time and could significantly impact their life by helping them to form a real connection with nature.
If you're viewing this, I would really appreciate donations of any amount! All of it goes towards helping camp run smoothly and making sure the campers have a great experience. Every little bit makes a difference. Thank you and have a great day!
Sincerely,
Sierra (or as they call me at Unicamp, Sky
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
