A Message From Halena Ngo
Hi friends and family,
By the end of the year I will be packing my bags to head out for law school and say bye to the wonderful time I've spent in the city that has given me so much! With my limited time left, I knew there was one experience I wanted to revisit for one last time, and that experience is volunteering with UniCamp.
In my undergraduate career, UniCamp has been the biggest experience in helping me find my purpose and realizing my dream career as a public interest attorney. My friends and family know how deeply I've been touched by the various campers I've worked with throughout the years-- they have not only developed my patience, compassion, and problem-solving skills, but they've inspired me to think about how to tackle wider issues faced by communities of color at large.
For my final year of UniCamp, I'll be fundraising a significantly larger amount, and that's because I'll be working with older campers specifically in a program that will develop their appreciation for community service. Community service has been vital to my self-growth since I was a high-schooler, and I can't think of a better way to round up my undergraduate career than by going full-circle, by paying it back and teaching a current generation of high-schoolers how empowering it is to work for your community.
With your help, at best, I may be able to make long-lasting change on these kids' lives. But at the very least, I'll be able to provide them a magical week full of dancing, singing, hiking, and playing.
Thank you so much!
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
