A Message From Elmo Woodsey
This summer, I've been given the unique opportunity to be a camp counselor for UCLA UniCamp for the second time!!
UniCamp is a non-profit organization and UCLA’s flagship volunteer program that sends underprivileged youth to summer camp for a week. Up at camp, we challenge and inspire these students that they can work beyond their full potential. This year I will be working primarily middle school students from Horace Mann Middle School in Los Angeles.
UniCamp has been the most transformative experience for me in college. It has helped me find my closest friends, be my true self, and challenge me to take steps out of my comfort zone. I hope that these kids will have the same transformative experience in camp where they can be in a place that is free of the stresses of school and home, and where they can truly be themselves. Coming from underserved communities these kids have many troubles that other kids may not face. But at camp the only things kids need to worry about is having fun, building friendships, and thinking about who they want to be in the future.
I believe that the friendships and memories made at camp stay with the campers as a part of their life. In order to subsidize the campers’ costs I need your help in fundraising $500. Anything helps! Thank you so much
In Support of UCLA UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
