A Message From SUNSHINE Woodsey
This will be my fourth year being a part of UCLA's longest running tradition and official non-profit organization, UniCamp! I will be a Head Counselor as part of the Outdoor Environmental Education Session's LSHIP team!
As volunteer camp counselors, we take children to summer camp for a week at Camp River Glen, near Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains, who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to do so. For this to happen, each counselor fundraises $450 to subsidize the cost of attendance for one camper, which is about $600.
Once again, I am hoping to be able to support the campers to the best of my ability and to provide the best experience possible. We want to create a simultaneously supportive and fun environment where campers are able to express themselves and grow to be stronger individuals. I cannot wait to seethe campers' smiles, hear their laughter, and watch them just be kids.
The following is a reflection on my first UniCamp session in 2016, "It was one of the most exhausting things I've ever done in my life: physically, mentally, and emotionally. A week with the most amazing people from my campers, Co's, LSHIP, all of my fellow Woodseys,...and nature brought so many memories that will last a lifetime. The campers taught me so much and I hope that I made at least a fraction of the imprint on them that they've left on me.I'd like to thank everyone who made this possible and can't wait for next year!"
Thank you so much in advance!

UCLA UniCamp is the official student charity of the University of California, Los Angeles. UniCamp operates as an independently funded non-profit organization linking the University with the community. Each year, UniCamp inspires nearly 1,000 children from underserved families to envision brighter futures by sending them, along with 400 student volunteers, to its residential outdoor summer camp.
