A Message From Crafts Woodsey
I can't believe this wonderful thing is starting earlier this year... I'm super excited to be volunteering for UCLA UniCamp again! I just keep gravitating back towards it because I am absolutely enamored with UniCamp's mission, purpose, message, and endless opportunities for under-served youth in the Los Angeles community and beyond.
This year, I'm part of leadership for Mental Wellness and Fortitude! We will be learning, educating, and providing mental health resources. It's an issue that's currently being brought up in my generation and youth today. Our session is very important because we will be working with LGBTQ youth, who are underrepresented in camp, have to confront mental health stigma AND discrimination against their identities. Our program is important to me because I've struggled with my own mental health in my years growing up, at UCLA, and even now, and I can say that some of it was attributed by my experience in claiming my self-identity. I hope to provide a safe space and a loving, supportive community, and let them know that they're never alone.
YOU can take part in my adventure! As I prepare and plan for this upcoming camp season, I would greatly appreciate YOUR continued help and support in reaching my fundraising goal - all of your donations cover the costs in bringing kids up to camp for a week so it's little to no cost to them, and it also subsidizes the materials and training needed to set up an enriching experience for them!
Each and every one of us have a story to tell, and we all have different experiences from one another. I haven't met them yet, but I want my volunteers and campers to be able to live like a kid - to have fun like singing songs and playing games. Along with the fun, I hope to inspire my volunteers and campers with programs in helping them foster their leadership skills and strive for a future that awaits them. Giving this opportunity and experience to them means the world to me.
