The Fundraising Page of Chris Han

Hey everyone, my name is Chris (aka my camp name: Starlord )! This will be my second go-around as a UniCamp volunteer, and I'm super excited to have the opportunity again. UniCamp is UCLA's official student charity, and for the past 80 years, we have helped fundraise the amount needed to help send kids from urban areas in LA to summer camp! Because it is student-run, I need your help to help others! The specific program for my week of camp is Session Expression--Expression, Empowerment, and Community through art. Throughout this week of camp, I will be a camp counselor and a creative writing specialist. This means I will not only be living with the kids in a cabin and taking care of them for an entire week as their counselor, but I will also be integrating many aspects of creative writing, like poetry and story-telling, to create a truly safe space for all campers to express themselves. My session's goal is to hopefully have the campers use what they learn about art and the power of community and friendship at camp, in hopes that they also empower themselves and make clear their own potential back home. To simply give a kid a chance to BE a kid for a week and get away from life in the busy city of LA, it really does make a difference whether we can actually see it right away. Personally, UniCamp has been one of the best things I've ever done at UCLA and life in general. Funny enough, I think the kids had more of an impact on me than I had on them. The energy they gave me, and their personal stories will always be an important memories in my life. To me, this truly shows how just a week can make an enormous impact on lives. Truly, camp helps us self-reflect what's important in life. Though it is one small act, I truly believe UniCamp can make a major impact on so many lives. And I think any volunteer would agree. I understand some of you may have made donations last year, but as always, ANYTHING helps. I promise that your donation does have meaning!
